What if I don't have a financial adviser?

Most of our clients are recommended to us by their financial adviser. However, you do not need to have a financial adviser in order to invest with Principal. We would wish to meet you so that we can discuss with you whether our service is suitable for you and clarify your investment needs and objectives, in the light of the level of risk that you are willing and able to take. You should be aware, however, that Principal itself is not authorised to provide a general financial planning service, so we cannot provide you with specific advice on your wider financial situation eg pensions or mortgages.

Is Principal's investment management service likely to be suitable for me?

Before proceeding further, please ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you prepared to accept some fluctuation in the value of your investments, in return for greater potential returns?
  • Are you investing for the longer term, ie your investment time horizon is five years plus, and you do not anticipate the need to make capital withdrawals during that period? For example, does your income comfortably exceed your outgoings and have you got money set aside for financial emergencies?
  • Have you made adequate provision for your pension/mortgage/financial dependants?
  • Do you understand the risks involved in this kind of investment? Please see Important Information.

If the answer to any of the above questions is no, or if you are in any doubt as to whether our portfolio management service is suitable for you, we strongly recommend that you consult a financial adviser.
